چکیده

1− v/c, where c is the speed of light in vacuo. In this case, the frequency of an atomic clock can vary depending on its velocity. The frequency of the clock can be influenced by other external factors as well. The Pound–Rebka experiments [2] demonstrated the gravitation potential effect of this variable. Therefore the conditions of the present experiment were chosen in such a way that except for the velocity, all other factors affecting the frequency of the clocks remained constant. Inertial atomic clocks moving with different velocities have constant frequencies as long as external factors remain constant. While the direction and velocity of a moving atomic clock („B”) in the inertial system K corresponds to the direction and velocity of the clock („A”) examined in the Ives–Stilwell experiment, the frequency of the former clock is definable without taking any additional measurements, assuming that the clocks are of the same type (Fig. 1).

An Abductive Theory of Constitution∗

The first part of this paper finds Craver’s (2007) mutual manipulability theory (MM) of constitution inadequate, as it definitionally ties constitution to the feasibility of idealized experiments, which, however, are unrealizable in principle. As an alternative, the second part develops an abductive theory of constitution (NDC), which exploits the fact that phenomena and their constituents are ...

On the remote interaction of biological objects with identical genetic structures

The paper puts forward an unusual prediction that cultivating a clone can curtail the lifespan of the clone donor. Neither the arrangement of this suggested empirical study nor the analyses of the anticipated outcomes rely on the accompanying theoretical contemplations. This prediction has come from the interpretation of the genome as a “barcode”. The genome is considered as an identification l...

How peculiar is the “ peculiar variable ” DZ Crucis ( Nova Cru 2003 ) ?

The variable star DZ Cru was thought to be a nova when it was discovered in eruption in 2003 August. This explanation was later challenged, however, when the first spectra of the object were reported. We present near infrared spectroscopy of DZ Cru obtained at the New Technology Telescope on 3 occasions, starting ∼ 1.5 years after outburst, with the aim of establishing the nature of the object....

In the late thirteenth century, Theodoric of Freiberg, a Dominican monk, theologian, and physicist, performed a simple experiment: with his back to the sun, he held a spherical bottle filled with water in the sunlight. By following the trajectory of the refracted and reflected light and having the bottle play the same role as a single water drop, he gave a scientific explanation of rainbows, in...

A Deeper Look at the “Neural Correlate of Consciousness”

A main goal of the neuroscience of consciousness is: find the neural correlate to conscious experiences (NCC). When have we achieved this goal? The answer depends on our operationalization of "NCC." Chalmers (2000) shaped the widely accepted operationalization according to which an NCC is a neural system with a state which is minimally sufficient (but not necessary) for an experience. A deeper ...
